As we step into a new month, it's the perfect opportunity to look back on August here at NCP!
Family Wellbeing
Our newly formed Family Wellbeing Team has been busy organising events over the summer for local families. Children and parents were entertained at Frankley Library on 24th July with arts & craftsđ¨, Fairytale face painting â¨, and Spoz, the poet and rapper extraordinaire!đ It was a great day for everyone. đ
We promoted our team and shared financial information, advice, and guidance, as well as resources, local information, and Northfield Community Partnership's support services. We worked jointly with our Northfield NNS project to identify the needs of families in the Northfield Constituency and august-roundup-ncp-s-top-stories-and-highlights-of-the-monthpinpointed their main priorities.
At our Family Wellbeing Day held at Frankley Library, we had 69 attendees! Families voted on the main issues they felt affected the Frankley area, prioritising them in order of importance. The highest votes were for SEND support, followed by domestic abuse, employment, and migrant support. Other highlighted issues included the need for more free activities/stay-and-plays and various health concerns, particularly mental health. We are looking to raise the profile of these issues and offer support in the coming months.
The next Family Wellbeing Day was held at Northfield Library, on 8th August. We had 165 attendees!
We had a fantastic turn out at our Family Wellbeing Day at Northfield Library on 8th August and had a wonderful fun filled day! Families were entertained by Spozâs brilliant poetryđ, a heat-free cooking class with Pip (from Pips Hot Sauces)đŤ, Fairytale face paintersâ¨, and arts and craftsđ¨.
As we did at our Frankley event, we asked parents what they felt were the most significant issues affecting families local to Northfield. The highest vote was for SEND issues, followed by domestic abuse, migrant support, and employment. There were 39 other issues raised, mainly health-related, with the biggest vote by far highlighting the need for more support in the mental health sector.
Our next Family Wellbeing Day is at Hawkesley Community Centre on 30th August 11am â 3pm, hope to see you there!

NEW GRANT FUNDING for local projects - The Fairer Futures Fund (FFF)
There is new grant funding available for local projects tackling health inequalities in our communities. The funding comes from the NHS, so anyone applying must be able to demonstrate significant health-related outcomes. Applicants can apply for up to ÂŁ15,000 per year, and the project can run for up to 3 years, allowing for a total of ÂŁ45,000. The application process for these grants opens on 7th October 2024 and closes in mid-January 2025, with grants awarded from April 2025 onwards. The application is online and processed via the Heart of England Foundation.
Anyone wishing to apply for FFF funding MUST have a conversation with their local NNS team. The money comes from the NHS, so it is not restricted to adults only (as is usually the case with NNS funding). We are seeking applications that support better health outcomes for the entire population, including families and children. Some clear public health priorities have already been identified, and these must be addressed in any application.
To find out more please contact anyone in the NNS team and they will be able to send out more information about these Public health priorities for the fund, and discuss any project ideas you may have. Get in touch ASAP if you think you might be interested.
