September Roundup: NCP's Stories and Highlights of the Month!

As the seasons shift, so do the months! Let's take a moment to reflect on September. 🍂

Northfield NNS

Last month, our amazing Northfield Neighbourhood Network Scheme team secured 2nd runner-up in the Community Reassurance Award at the Annual Community Inspirational Awards! They won for connecting local residents with support services, promoting independence, and enhancing community engagement reassurance through various initiatives and grant. Well done, team!💚

The annual Community Inspiration Awards is organised by the Community Foundation, to recognise outstanding contributions made by staff from public sector organisations, charities, businesses and members of the community, whose efforts have made a positive difference in the community.

Over 50’s Planning Committee

Bev, our amazing over 50's Project Worker, has written a short snippet about their Over 50's planning committee!

"In this blog, I’d like to share with you about a lively, enthusiastic bunch of older citizens. These citizens of whom many are in their 80’s, are all part of our Northfield Neighbourhood Network Scheme (NNS) Over 50’s Planning Committee.

As International Day of Older People was drawing ever closer, this year, I decided that an event for IDOP would be a fantastic way to honour and celebrate all the amazing work that’s happening within our communities delivered by the citizens, for the citizens.

With this year’s theme being ‘The Integral Part we Play’ – Celebrating the Integral Role of Older People in Our Communities, this made me think, what better way of celebrating this special day by inviting a group of citizens to take part in a Planning Committee. The aim being to bring these citizens together to not only plan and arrange but, to deliver the event themselves.

The committee was made up of six members who met weekly, and it was during these meetings that we discovered all the incredible, boundless skills, talents, and creativity from all members i.e. designing and making the decorations themselves at the same time, planning the event right down to the very last detail! Their enthusiasm and dedication truly demonstrated the impact that NNS has and the integral part it plays within our communities. Not only does it bring together citizens who would be otherwise isolated, it’s making a difference to the communities they live in.

Disability Forum

Owen, our Young Adults Project Worker, is involved with the Northfield Disability Forum. The group attended their NNS steering group in September.

Below are a few words about the forum!

What makes us Angry? What are we passionate about?

  • We want to change attitudes to disability

  • We want to see barriers overcome

  • We want to see equality of rights for disabled people

Our strengths:

We are resourceful people, with lived experience of immigration, disability, and being carers. We have a lot of people skills.

Family Wellbeing

Our Family Wellbeing Team began hosting their brand new coffee morning at Northfield Library! ☕

Future Proof

In September, Future Proof launched a new “Drop-In” at the Coffee Afternoon with Redeemer. The initiative offers income maximisation support, along with sewing lessons taught by a local resident who has received funding to lead activities in her community. It’s off to a fantastic start, with a CAP money course running alongside it!

Ralph, our Future Proof Handyman, cleared a heavily overgrown garden and revealed a beautiful patio and furniture underneath.
